I am thankful for...

As I continue to count my many blessings this month, I particularly wanted to give light to all of my wonderful brides who become friends. There are so many of you that it makes it tough to pick just one! But THIS girl has recently come to me for a few other things, and she is just the sweetest soul, so I had to share her invitation suite. Jessica and Ryan were married last year at The Westin Town Center in Virginia Beach.  When Jessica came to me, she wanted a vintage, fall invitation suite and really wanted it to stand out. She was all about introducing textures, so we decided to punch the corners of all pieces in the suite to add lots of it :)  The suite was tied with jute twine and a vintage luggage-tag to finish it up.  Ya'll know how much I love kraft, so we used kraft envelopes to add to the vintage feel. The simplistic sketch of leaves across the top added just the right touch of fall to the entire suite.

Since getting married, Jessica has come back to me for her hubby's 1 year anniversary gift (paperrrrr), and a friends baby shower invitations!  We love clients that remember to come back to us for all of their life events :)

The Art of Typography

Happy Tuesday all!  Today I wanted to touch on the art of typography.  Typography is the technique of arranging typefaces to make an appealing and recognizable design. In stationery, we use typography to distinguish between lines and to enhance the design. Take this invitation suite, for example: View More: http://jenandashley.pass.us/paperdollsshoot

There are almost too many typestyles to count! The combination of multiple typestyles to create the overall aesthetic of the invitation suite is an example of typography. In this instance, the mixture of typestyles creates a vintage theme that you will see is tied throughout the couple's save-the-date, invitation suite, and day-of paper products.

The invitation suite is placed in a pocketfold. Pocketfolds are a great way to organize your invitation suite, especially if you have multiple inserts!

What I love most is that each of the pieces of their wedding day products are similar and different. By using the same typestyles throughout the individual pieces, the wedding stationery is cohesive. The addition of different borders and motifs allow for subtle differences that play into the vintage theme.

Here is a picture of what the outside of the pocketfolder looked like. We placed a wax seal with the soon-to-be last name initial and used bakers' twine to seal the pocketfold.

We will revisit this save-the date again in the near future when we discuss how to set the tone from the very beginning of your wedding stationery products.

The vintage postcard sets the tone for the remaining pieces we designed for the happy couple. The vintage postmark adds the final touch to this save-the-date postcard!

Please stay tuned for our new blog post next week! As always, please do not hesitate to contact us if you are interested in discussing your wedding stationery visions or if you would like more information.

Jackson David - 6 months

Howwwwww is it possible that Mr. Jackson David is 6 months old already?!?!  It seems like just yesterday I announced that we were expecting. I have been SO lucky to have the smoothest pregnancy, easiest delivery and a God-send of a child (minus this current month-long sleep regression).  Many people have said I won't have as good of luck with the second, but hubby and I are hoping to be this lucky a few more times :) Its really a whirlwind of emotions to think back to life before baby.  While I was preggo, strangers would always ask "Is this your first?", and I would smile, grin and think to myself "I must have that 'new mother' glow and this 45lb belly clearly looks "all baby" (as rumor has it the 2nd, 3rd, 4th pregnancies do not look as good)", however, looking back, I realize all of those strangers were thinking "Ohhhhh lady, you're absolutely screwed, life as you know it is about to change dramatically".  Its amazing the "then and now" moments you have after baby.  You always hear "Sleep? Whats that?" and "Oh but don't worry, its all worth it".  Well, let me tell you... its a whole different ball game when it happens to you.  For the first 4 weeks, I had what they call "baby blues" (and no, it has nothing to do with your sweet babies angelic eyes).  It is a hormonal outrage that some women experience postpartum.  I remember sitting on the couch, my hair a dishelved mess and bags under my eyes as dark as night, looking at my dog and bawling my eyes out as I thought "Whatttttt have I done?? I will never have another day to sit back, relax, maybe take a nap, go to the mall, or enjoy doing 'nothing'".  At my 2 week postpartum check up, I assured my doctor I was suffering PP depression and needed meds.  He looked at me with a little smirk on his face, and said "oh no, you're just experiencing baby blues".  Um WHAT?! Why didn't anyone tell me about this beforehand??  Here I thought you had this little meatball of a baby, and would stare at it for days thanking your lucky stars and cherishing every moment.  All mothers experiences are different of course, so I very well may be the "exception", but it was definitely not puppy dogs and rainbows the first few weeks.  I actually look back and wish that I could tell myself what I know now, and to really soak in those moments, as they do go by unbearably fast.  But I guess all I can do is to remember this for baby #2.

What I can say is, once those baby blues clear out(which they do), you realize you wouldn't trade a single second of it for the world.  You will sit and stare at the most perfect little face, and wonder what on earth you did to deserve such a beautiful blessing.  Your friendships surely change, and your marriage is put to the ultimate test (patience patience patience my dear), but its all so so worth it.

So anyway, while I sit here weeping over these most perfect images of my 6 month old meatball, I figured I would share with the world all of my ins and outs and how life is so much better with him in it.

Hello world!

Since the beginning of PaperDolls Design (2011), I've been meaning to begin a blog in order to highlight every invitation suite I've done along the way, along with personal stories about the bride and groom.  I loved the idea of sharing my personal experiences with everyone and showing how the invitation suite was brought to life.  2.5 years later, I've finally begun.  Be sure to check back often as this will most definitely be a work in progress since I have completed 100+ invitation suites so it will take me a while to catch up.  I'm excited to be able to share our experience with you :) xoxo,

April
